The Torbay Singers is an auditioned chamber choir of no more than 50 singers. To preserve the scale of the choir, we limit the number of singers in each voice and all singers are re-auditioned every three years.

At the moment (winter 2017) we have one or two vacancies in some voice parts. If you are interested in singing with us but we have no vacancies in your vocal section, we will ask you to join a waiting list. When we have a vacancy, we will invite you along to sample a rehearsal or two without commitment. You will then need to audition for the Music Director before being admitted into the choir.

If you are interested in singing with us, please email us.  Please include details of your experience of choral singing and how we can contact you.  You will need a confident singing voice, and be able to listen and blend into a chamber choir. You do not need to be a demon sight-reader but you do need to be able to read music and be willing to do homework on your voice part.  Our rehearsals are for creating our performance, not for learning the notes.

The Torbay Singers is a charity (no. 268917) registered in England.  The society is managed by a committee and the members of the committee are Trustees of the society.  The officers and committee members in 2017-18 are:

Chairman: Sue Roach
Vice Chair: vacant
Librarian: Gabrielle Kirby
Membership Secretary: Marea Sayer
Secretary: Andrew Richards
Treasurer: Neil Taylor
Publicity Co-ordinator: Roger Matthews
Musical Director: Tina Guthrie
(ex officio)

Tina Guthrie Tina Guthrie was appointed Musical Director of the Torbay Singers in the Spring of 2005. She has great enthusiasm for conducting and has also formed and directed a number of "occasional" choirs in Exeter, as well as the bi-annual Crediton Festival Chorus.

As a flautist Tina plays regularly in orchestras accompanying local choral societies and was a founder member of the flute quartet "Champagne Flutes". As a soprano she sang for a number of years with the Exeter Chamber Choir, gives occasional solo performances and has recently co-founded an exciting female vocal quartet "Bella a Cappella".

In addition to all of this Tina works at Exeter School as teacher of Music and Singing.

The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at Shiphay Community Primary School, Exe Hill, Torquay.

Enter the school via the car park (the main pedestrian entrance is closed in the evening).  There is extra parking up the incline to the right (don't block the access to the school yard!)  Then walk across the school yard to the Hall.
